(08:53)SonjaOfTheMoon: Okay, I'm back.
(08:53)ReverseTheStreams: :D Hiya!
How are you so cheerful this early?
(08:54)dukerex: i know, right? i'll try to sleep in on a weekend and she'll want to make breakfast for me, the nerve
(08:55)ReverseTheStreams: Are you complaining about breakfast in bed? :P
(08:55)dukerex: no :p
(08:56)ReverseTheStreams: Uhm! Oh! Sorry, Sonja!
(08:56)SonjaOfTheMoon: It's okay.
Goodness knows I've done that enough times...
(08:57)ReverseTheStreams: Hehe! :D
(08:57)ReverseTheStreams: So! I'm sure you have questions~?
(08:59)SonjaOfTheMoon: Well. What I've read so far looks very nice, but I'd have to see the actual implementation.
(09:00)SonjaOfTheMoon: I'm not sure what you actually want me to do here. What would my duties be?
(09:00)dukerex: soaking up some of revie's perpetual entheusiasm :p
(09:01)SonjaOfTheMoon: I don't think there's a substance in the universe capable of doing that. It sounds like the sort of thing that'd violate at least one of the laws of thermodynamics.
(09:01)*dukerex high five*
(09:02)ReverseTheStreams: You'd provide support as we begin implementing dynamic inter-NPC interactions. As you've seen in that PDF, our simulation model has each character operate as an autonomous agent. This sometimes causes problems, if multiple simulated characters are talking to each other and don't have an obvious, plot-defined subject to guide the conversation. They can end up talking in circles about things that most players don't care about, which is a feature when it happens for a couple sentences or two, but a problem when it holds up gameplay too long. We are planning a module to guide such conversations back organically, but neither Charles nor I are any good at that sort of deep, heuristic-based search. See pages 12 through 16.
(09:03)*ReverseTheStreams smacks Duke*
(09:04)*dukerex is smacked*
(09:05)SonjaOfTheMoon: I see. Yeah, I have some experience in that
(let me talk about upgrading the base's maintenance drone firmware sometime); I could help you out.
I can't decide if you two like each other or not.
(09:06)ReverseTheStreams: Okay, sweet! :) Nice to have you on board.
(09:06)ReverseTheStreams: We like each other almost as much as we like antagonizing each other. :D
(09:07)SonjaOfTheMoon: I never said I was "on board" yet. I still have a bunch of questions.
(09:07)SonjaOfTheMoon: Like, what's your release timeline? What resources do you have available? And, uh- Don't get me wrong, I'm flattered, but why me?
(09:07)SonjaOfTheMoon: Being contacted out of the blue like this, for a paid position, has me a little on edge.
(09:08)ReverseTheStreams: Oh! I'm so sorry! D:
(09:08)ReverseTheStreams: I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable! I just-
(09:08)ReverseTheStreams: I thought we worked well together in the past, that's really all.
(09:08)ReverseTheStreams: I'm sorry for being presumptuous. D:
(09:09)SonjaOfTheMoon: Oh, no no no no, it's not like that. I just...
(09:10)SonjaOfTheMoon: I'm not used to compliments.
(09:11)dukerex: maybe i can insult you to even it out
(09:12)SonjaOfTheMoon: ...no, that's quite alright.
(09:12)*ReverseTheStreams slaps duke*
(09:13)dukerex: not the face
(09:14)ReverseTheStreams: Back to ignoring him~ Sonja, I didn't mean to pressure you. You've just been such a big help to me before, I thought I should offer the position to you first.
(09:15)SonjaOfTheMoon: Aww, thanks.
(09:16)ReverseTheStreams: So you'll do it?
(09:16)SonjaOfTheMoon: ...conditionally, yes. Let me finish reading your PDF and I'll get back to you.
(09:17)dukerex: she'll be here slapping in the mean time, i'm sure :D
